About the Lead Facilitator

Sherrine Washington, M.S.W., C.A.M.F.
Diplomate, American Association of Anger Management Providers

Background
Sherrine L. Washington is a Certified Stress & Anger Management Facilitator and curriculum trainer for Stress & Anger Solutions of the Carolinas.

Education
Sherrine graduated from the University of Maryland College Park in 1997 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. In May 2006, Sherrine graduated from George Mason University with a Master’s degree in Social Work.

Lead Therapist
Most recently, Sherrine served as a Senior Motivational Enhancement Cognitive Behavioral Therapist for a grant funded program at Georgetown University Medical Center in the Department of Psychiatry.

As the lead therapist, she provided substance abuse treatment to adolescents in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area with a treatment focus developing personal goals, increasing motivation, and readiness to change.

Expertise
Sherrine has over 10 years of experience working with children and families in multiple capacities including, but not limited to, probation/rehabilitation, therapeutic foster care, mental health, substance abuse, geriatric care, HIV/AIDS, mental retardation, and developmental disabilities.

Sherrine is a Certified Clinical Supervisor in Motivational Enhancement Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Motivational Enhancement Therapy is a therapeutic approach based on the premise that clients are best able to achieve change when motivation comes from within themselves, rather than being imposed by the therapist. A key tenet of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is that individuals manifesting maladaptive behaviors may be able to learn coping skills that would allow them to decrease or abstain from negative behaviors.

Other Professional Experience

Sherrine has worked for the Maryland State Department of Juvenile Justice, Mental Retardation Developmental Disabilities of the District of Columbia, Whitman-Walker Clinic of Northern Virginia, and The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
